Fish is fresh but the salsa is lacking They need different and hotter salsas to move up. Pancho Villa in San Mateo still way better. Also a little pricey

Wow totally impressed by the fish tacos!! Got one each of Snapper and breaded Halibut both delicious. Fresh and generous ingredients and so tasty. Our new favorite for fish tacos in San Jose. The Watermelon Agua Fresca was fresh and not overly sweetened and the Guacamole was chunky and clearly homemade. We are SO happy to have Mavericks in Willow Glen - run don't walk to this new gem, you won't regret it! Que Rico!!

Tasty dinner with the family at Mavericks's tonight. I had the Ensalada Mejicanos with grilled chicken. The chicken was flavorful and romaine lettuce was topped with loads of goodies such as avocado, corn, grilled onions and peppers and tomatoes. My husband enjoyed the halibut fish tacos. My daughter loved the chicken tacos and my son had a giant wet burrito even though it was the smaller size option. Overall it was a good dinner at a reasonable price. Just wish I could have had a margarita with it! Friendly staff too!

Nice surprise! Busy place on the edge of meridian. Indoor and outdoor seating. Fresh seafood menu with lots of choices. The staff is trying hard to turn food quickly and provides good service. Overall a new take on an old concept. Large quesadilla is a standard size. Scallop chimichanga was fresh. Not too fishy. Nachos were crispy - not too salty. A little expensive.

I tried Mavericks' today for a take-out lunch, and thoroughly enjoyed a pollo asado taco and grilled snapper taco. Both were very fresh and well seasoned. I will definitely be back to try more of their fresh fish dishes.

Clean, fresh ingredients, oysters tasted super fresh and made my super grande campechana delicious!!

This is the second time I have been. I'm hooked on the salmon tacos. The salmon is fresh and its grilled to perfection. They give you chips and salsa and the salsa is tasty, a little mild for my palate, but has great flavor. Give it a try.

Went there last week - sign said closed for tree removal...ummm...ok! Went past again on Tuesday and today, now it says closed for two weeks for kitchen remodel! WTH - the place just opened two months ago - really bad business move, Windows are taped up and no sign of any construction workers remodeling the kitchen. Strange for sure!

The Halibut Fish Tacos are AMAZING! Best Halibut Fish Tacos I've ever had! The staff was friendly and courteous! I definitely will be returning here again!

Great seafood tacos in Willow Glen. I ordered the grilled halibut and crab tacos. The fish was fresh an so was the crab. Both were very good and the service was fast and friendly. I'll be back. Even a better selection than Dia De Pesca.

  • Derek K.

Love the Camarones Al Cucuy..... Their breaded halibut burrito is to die for..... AND I've never craved shrimp and octopus cocktail like I've craved for the one I get at Mavericks! The decor is pretty fun and the people working at the restaurant are super friendly and nice. Welcome to the neighbourhood, guys! Glad to know there's a quality restaurant not far from home.

  • Brian C.

Halibut, salmon, tilapia, prawns, octopus, scallops, stuffed in your taco, burrito, chile relleno and more. All prepared in delicious sauces by super nice family owners. I'll be back often!

Great new Mexican grill! The staff is super friendly and the fish tacos are Amazing! The carne asada is fantastic too!

  • Guess W.

Dia di Pesca move on over...make way for Mavericks! Hands down the best fish and shrimp tacos in the southbay! You cant go wrong with the breaded halibut for the fish tacos. They pack the fish in the tacos too. Each bite is loaded with fish. Another plus is the staff is super friendly and nice. Cant wait to be back!

Loved this place since it is walking distance from my house......... And then I found clipped fingernails in my chimichanga...... They also forgot my chips.

I really wanted to like this place. I had heard only good things. To be honest, it may be good. I didn't stay long enough to order. My husband and I walked in and there were a couple employees talking and two customers. We were looking at the menu and so many things sounded great. Unfortunately, the employees were talking and one asked the other if he was "still sick." We left. I don't know if I will try one more time. I guess I am picky, but when one employee asks another (that is working) if he is still sick it's time to go.

I was invited to come back and give Mavericks another try. They have clearly worked out all of the kinks of being a new business. The food was fresh and flavorful, the staff friendly and helpful with suggestions. The Burrito's are HUGE! And I was told they hope to have their beer license soon. It would be nice to have a beer and some excellent Mexican food right in my neighborhood. Tip, you MUST try the Aguas Frescas! They are made right there and they are delicious and refreshing! Mavericks did not disappoint!

We will be back. What a find Whoo Hoo!!!!Excellent food, in a charming, welcoming restaurant. Pleasant service! My man had the octopus enchilada. Sauce is appealed perfectly to our tastebuds. The whole meal guested with flavor. Octopus was very fresh and cooked perfectly. The green sauce brought all the components together in a masterful way. Good after taste. I had the chicken burrito. Great texture, large and tasty. Two big thumbs up. Way better than the expensive French restaurant we ate at in the wine country a few days ago.

  • Mike B.

Great new(er) Mexican restaurant in willow glen. Best fish tacos I've had outside of San Diego. Breaded halibut and grilled snapper tacos are my favorites. Other menu items including quesadilla, enchilada and burritos are really good - but it's the fish tacos that keep me coming back so often. Service is great and people are nice and helpful. Only downside is the place is getting busier and busier every week as people learn about it.

  • Jennifer E.

$3.50 for a tiny side of guacamole! The bowl is so small my chip was too big to fit in it! It was good but certainly not great. I'm confused by all of the 5 star reviews. I had checked out Yelp before going and with so many great reviews I had high expectations. My husband and both got tacos...I had fried fish and he had grilled. They we OK. I also ordered a side of refried beans and rice. The beans were bland...maybe they aren't refried...just mashed. I would be willing to try them again but still want to know what's going on with all the 5 star Elite posts...did they hire people to write them? Seriously, did they?

    (3)
  • Diane H.

Outstanding fish tacos. All of the sides are fantastic too. The rice is fluffy and beans are delicious. All of the servers were attentive and friendly. Hope they can add beer soon as it would be the icing on the cake for this place. Also love the patio but umbrellas are needed. Can't wait to go back.

So far been here three times in the last four days, food is amazing!!!! The only problem I have with this place is I do not want to eat anywhere else.

  • Seth R.

Not normally a fan of seafood, but my whole family is. I actually tried the breaded halibut tacos and they were really good, and didn't have much of a "fishy" taste. Wife had the halibut and the snapper and she liked them both. I had the chicken and carne asada and actually preferred the chicken, but they were both pretty tasty.

    (5)
  • Evelyn O.

My brother suggested this place to celebrate a family member's birthday. What a wonderful experience! Great food, service and very kind staff. The burritos were huge: amongst us we enjoyed the chicken and shrimp burritos, wet style. The sauce was found to be very flavorful and the burritos could feed two people!!! Enjoyed appetizers of nachos and quesadillas. Again, flavorful and filling. Can't wait to go back!!

    (5)
  • Melissa B.

I walked by here the day after it opened and decided to come back today. I ordered the prawn tostada, the breaded halibut taco and a mango peach agua fresca to go. The food was yummy and fresh and I saw many other things I wanted to try. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I guess the only downside in ordering to go is you don't get chips and salsa. The family will have to come back soon and sit in!

    (5)
  • R B.

Good & good service. Had the shrimp burrito and can recommend. Would return.

  • Jonathan K.

This place has a line out the door for a reason. Fresh seafood dishes and agua fresca made from scratch, all at a modest price. My favorite place in the neighborhood.

  • C K.

Best burrito I've had in a year or so! I'm so glad to have found a local place that does it right. My boyfriend actually wanted to order another burrito before we left for a midnight snack later on, but they're actually running out of product, they're so busy! Business is good, and it will get better with me and my boyfriend as future regulars.

Ed was so wonderful! The food is so good and customer service was amazing. Will be back for sure

Been here 4 times in the last 3 weeks for both lunch and dinner. Great new find in Willow Glen. Great Fresh Food, The owner is a lovely man committed to quality food and good service. Shrimp tacos are the best. Seating inside and outside. Good Value, Family Friendly, If you like fresh fish mexican dishes, give Mavericks a try but there carne asada tacos are also good, it will not disappoint.

After being here a total of 6 times so far since they opened... This place is really really good, customer service is excellent and the food is fantastic! Every time I come here I try something new and everything is excellent..if you plan on having a great meal.... Come to this place now!!

  • Amt D.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner last night for the first time. It was packed! We ordered a few items to split so we could sample as much as possible: nachos with crab, quesadilla with halibut and salmon tacos. I enjoyed everything we ordered although the chips need to be warmed for the nachos. My only other recommendation is to get a liquor license. We had to wait over 20 minutes for our food so it would've been nice to have been able to have a beer and just relax and make an evening of it instead of looking at our watches. I would be more inclined to get this for takeout or lunch otherwise.

  • Audrey B.

Great spot! Very busy, nice indoor or outdoor seating. Very reasonable prices and fresh products. I recommend it! Had the enchiladas with steak and loved it. The quesadilla was really good too and the guacamole was home made.

  • Elizabeth S.

Honestly some of the best Mexican food in the Bay Area! Love love love everything about this place! Any dish with fish is delicious! Definitely the tacos, quesadilla and enchiladas! And the owner is adorable - so incredibly nice! You have to check this place out ASAP!

This place is awesome. I've been here 3 times in the last week, with 3 different people and they all agree that it is definitely here to stay. Great addition to Willow Glen!

  • Kathy M.

Love this new restaurant! I had a fresh halibut taco and a shrimp taco. Not sure which one I liked better. My husband had a steak tostado that was also delicious! Our dinner was under $20 for delicious and fresh Mexican food! Next time we'll bring the dog while we sit outside!

    (5)
  • Maria G.

It was ok. I has One taco de ceviche and One combo with octopus. The octopus was Chewy.and overcooked. The salsa was Good and the chips were warm But a little greasy for my taste. My brother had the burrito. The tortilla was crispy but a little oily. The inside of the carne asada burrito was ok but a little on the soft side with the guacamole sauce. The watermelon Aqua was delicious as always but they don't give you a lot and cost a dollar to refill. I say overall looked better than it tasted and overpriced . I'll stick with Super Taquierua even though they don't give you chips and Mariscos for my ceviche even though they don't have Aqua fresca! Either place would have cost me $10 less. My bill was $23!

  • Lane L.

Very cute little place. The sense of hope and enthusiasm is tangible in this newly minted little taqueria. Also, there are some rather appealing murals of Mayan, Aztec, and oceanic scenery all over the walls. My culinary opinions are worth about as much as the average tollbooth employee so I'll keep it simple. I ordered a tilapia burrito, it was reasonably priced, huge, and delicious, even more so when complimented by the variety of authentic Mexican hot sauces on each table. My only gripe is that the server kid (most likely a son or nephew) seemed slightly more sure of himself than I would've liked. That last bit really has nothing to do with the restaurant just my own bitter opinion. Enjoy!

  • Chris C.

A friend told me that this place had opened. The also said there was a good selection of fish dishes, including taco. I had a grilled tuna and a grilled halibut taco....excellent. You should try it.

  • Carrie H.

Nice new place. They made a nice outside seating area. Food was yummy and who I think was the owner (he took my order) was very nice and helpful. I will definitely go back again. Good food at reasonable prices.

Not exactly Authentic, But the food here is amazing!!

    (5)
  • Annette C.

Excellent food. Fresh and cooked to order. Great service to boot. I had a talapia taco and the talapia tostada. They were equally yummy. I ordered a side of whole pinto beans. It was just enough food. I will definitely go back. A lot more on the menu I'd like to try.

    (5)
  • Terry G.

Loved my salmon tacos. Service was extremely fast and courteous. Salmon was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I like my salmon fatty, and baby they were on point! My Dad ordered the oysters and he loved them. Salsa was good and hot sauces were easily available. Will absolutely be back. All they need to add is a selection of tequila shots for the walk home.

  • Leah R.

This place is DELICIOUS!!!! Wow super good! My mom and I came here for dinner and we were able to bring her dog and sit at the cute outside patio area. The salmon burrito was amazing! And chile relleno too! Also the employees were so friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back!

    (5)
  • Melinda O.

We loved this place! Awesome service, very reasonable prices, clean restaurant, nice outdoor seating, and best of all--- superb food! Get the seafood burrito! It was absolutely delicious, and they have many types of seafood fillings to choose from. The salmon was excellent. The only thing the restaurant is missing is wine and beer, but according to the owner, it's coming soon. Great job, Mavericks! (I the name, too)

Why 5 Stars? The food, the people and the setting. You can tell that this family is committed to serving the community for a long time to come, they have invested in Willow Glen and it shows. Love it !!

Excellent new restaurant! I walked in and was immediately greeted by the staff. The staff is very friendly and family oriented. The restaurant is very clean and spacious. The murals on the walls are very detailed and tell a story. I ordered the grande shrimp burrito and I wasn't disappointed. The burrito was large, very tasty, and filled with shrimp. San Jose has a new Mexican grill and it's a winner!

  • Barbara V.

The food, service, atmosphere exceeded my expectations! The prices are very reasonable--great value. The breaded halibut tacos were great, and the flan was the best I've ever had. They offer a variety of fish to choose from for their tacos, burritos, tostadas, enchiladas. We love this place!

I had breaded halibut fish tacos. Taste was excellent. My husband would have wanted a little more fish if he had them but I was fine with them. Chips & salsa; loved the salsa. Husband had shredded chicken enchiladas. He liked them very much. We will be repeat customers.

Mavericks opened up on this corner of Meridian and Willow after several other businesses failed. By the looks and reviews, it will be a success. They've built out a small patio area and the space has been remodeled with awesome murals and décor based on the Maverick surfing theme. The place is clean, well-lit and inviting. The menu is easy-to-read (but as one reviewer noted - they ought to add descriptions to their items) and prices are reasonable. The menu is set-up with kinds of dishes with your choice of fish or meats. On our first visit, we ordered a lot since we wanted to give this place a balanced review: - Salmon Taco - Chili Verde Taco - Chile Relleno - Steak Flautas (full plate with rice and beans) - Grilled Talapia Burrito - Cheese enchilada The food came out quick even though the place was busy. Everything was hot, fresh and plentiful. We enjoyed the food but we decided what Mavericks excels at are their tacos. They are small bits of heaven - the salmon was grilled but not dried out, the chili verde was large pieces of pork and the sauce was not overwhelming. The tacos are topped with greens and guacamole sauce. The Chile Relleno was delicious with a huge chile ancho stuffed with snapper and cheese. The steak flautas were okay. We expected flank steak but the steak was crumbled more like hamburger style. The burrito was huge, filled with lots of rice and beans and a good portion of fish. It was tasty but needed a bit more sauce. The enchilada was creamy with lots of cheese with tasty sauce. Overall, the food was good, the service great, the prices reasonable and the location convenient. Mavericks does well with seafood and enough variety to please their customers.

This place has fantastic burritos. I got the veggie burrito and I couldn't finish it. I'm so full but I keep trying to eat more since I know I'm going to regret it later if I don't finish it. Awesome new place!

  • John N.

Just went here with my fiancé and was really amazed by the quality of food. It tastes fresh and the portions are really generous. That being said, the way the burritos were crafted made them taste surprisingly light. The murals are awesome, the staff is friendly, the Restraunt is clean, and the food is awesome. I'm am definitely coming back here again! Thanks so much Mavericks!

  • Ron B.

Pretty good place for our first time trying it out. They keep the place clean and we tried the shrimp cerviche and shrimp and crab flautas. We are going back for more and trying a few more things on the menu. Great customer service!

  • Brandon L.

Good seafood Mexican option with nice staff. We had halibut taco (OK), ensalada, taco salad with crab meat, and crab meat quesadilla, both are delicious. They give free tostitas chip and dip at beginning.

  • Monica V.

Visited this place twice - on a Sat afternoon and week night. On the Sat visit, there was 2 other people in front and there was a bit of a wait. We ordered salmon burrito, chicken burrito and ensalada de casa. The salmon burrito was good and had good amount of salmon in it. My husband said the chicken burrito was ok, he had better. Even though this place was just ok to me,I do plan to visit this place again, but will try other items on the menu like the camaron tostada and salmon tacos.

My husband had dinner at Mavericks for the first time and really enjoyed the food. I had tilapia tacos, and he had beef enchiladas. Great salsa and sauces. It is nice to finally have a good quick restaurant close to home. The only thing I would like is the addition of beer on the menu. They do not serve any alcohol, but considering how good the food is, that is certainly not a deal breaker.

    (5)
  • Sean J.

Great food & exceptional service! Really loved the shrimp tacos and the halibut chimichanga! The menu is large and the seafood is fresh. Must try if you're in the area. Something new and fresh and not your typical boring taqueria.

  • W B.

Super place--good people--great food. While the location is easy to get to--it's not in a "walking" downtown district but don't let that stop you. Trust me, walk, run or drive to Maverick's as soon as you can for an outstanding fresh fish Mexican experience. The trick is using super fresh fish--which they appear to do. Keep it always super fresh boys, keep the smiles and keep the place clean as it is and you'll be around a long time.

  • Gia C.

WOW! That's all I can say. I wasn't sure what to expect going in. The space always seemed so small and I thought there was no way a restaurant would work here. Not only does it work, the food and staff is amazing. They have a huge selection of food which is so extremely yummy. The entire staff we encountered was so nice and friendly. My baby started crying and a nice gentleman who works here came over and talked to him and got him to stop crying. I'm so pleased. Definitely my new favorite spot. My grandma and I will frequent here a lot and I'll be telling lots of people about this place. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Thanks for the fabulous service and food!!!!

My family and I had dinner at Maverick's tonight for the first time and it was delicious ! The shrimp ceviche tostadas tasted very fresh and the shrimp cocktail was awesome! If I could it the cocktail all day I would! Great quick and friendly service well! The veggie burrito and carne asada burrito were also good. I would post a pic but all the food was devoured very quickly! We will be back ! So glad we found a good, new place to eat at!

Mavericks breaded halibut is one of the best fish tacos I have had anywhere. Super fresh and tasty. I also had a ceviche tostada, again, super fresh and tasty. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely decorated, the owner and staff are all friendly. If you like mariscos, this is the place to get it! Note - they also have meat options :-)

Great fresh fish dishes and fast, friendly service. The halibut fish tacos are fantastic! Would give them 5 stars if they served beer, wine and margaritas!

The parking lot looks really big, but it's set up a little funky, so bring your courtesy and patience, because this place gets busy. The food, value and service are all worth the risk.

I tried this place just two days ago. Delicious halibut tacos! Fresh tasting and the service was so friendly! Give them a try! Oh yes, I'm pretty picky about where I eat so I was impressed.

I love fish tacos but had yet to find a go to place nearby so I was thrilled when Mavericks opened. We've eaten here 3 times now and everything has been great. Lots of great seafood options with 3-4 different fish taco choices. Staff is friendly and attentive and their outdoor seating is a bonus.

We had the best experience at this newly opened Mexican restaurant! Super friendly staff, great atmosphere and OUTDOOR EATING AREA!! The grilled chicken salad was delicious. The halibut tacos (breaded and grilled) were mouth wateringly good! Kids had pork nachos and steak nachos! They served us chips and salsa before we ate, which was very nice. Also, the raspberry pineapple agua fresca was super refreshing. We will be eating here again!! Mavericks is a great addition to the Willow Glen community!!

I enjoy going to Mavericks for the tacos. A couple tacos and an aqua fresca is already a great meal. There's chips and salsa included to boot. But what really surprised me is the service. They take genuine care for each customer offering comp drinks for kids and giving attention to small details.

Mavericks, located on the corner of Willow and Meridian, is already a popular Willow Glen spot, especially for families and the older population. Word of mouth has been positive and the reviews of their fish tacos made them a worthwhile stop. It's located in a fairly big establishment but interior seating is limited compared to outdoor seating and the good size parking lot is hindered by being only a single entrance. Service is friendly and the clean, albeit, simple decor keeps the focus on the seafood and agua frescas that are prominently displayed on the counter. Supposedly, there is no alcohol served here so I got my Michelada fix at nearby Puerto Azul. I planned to get their popular fish tacos but at $4.09/each, I had to rethink my game plan. They did have nice options of tilapia, halibut, snapper, salmon and tuna and both fried, breaded, and grilled options are available. A variety of seafood entrees and soups are available and most include complimentary salsa and chips. My order: Siete Mares - $15.89. Since I only had room in my stomach and budget for one item, I opted for their Siete Mares. It's the well known Mexican seafood soup and here features a savory seafood broth filled with mussels, clams, shrimp, tender slices of octopus, scallops and plentiful fish. The savory broth is a touch salty but improved with a squeeze of the generous half lime and dipping with the included fresh flour tortillas. Overall, it was a great seafood soup and compares well in price and flavor with my favorite Caldo de Mariscos at La Viga in Redwood City. I'd say by the one item alone and guest reaction Mavericks has already surpassed the popular, but I've found disappointing, Dia De La Pesca. Mavericks accepts credit cards including American Express and I'll have to return to try their popular fish tacos.

More and more reviews keep poppin' up for this place, its ridiculous! I'm glad I could finally snag the 100th! Hehe anyhow, I had dinner here with my friend on Sunday night a couple of weeks ago after seeing all the hype on Yelp about it with the "high reviews." The aguas frescas are delicious and reasonably priced. The seafood tostadas seemed great from the pictures but somehow the seafood was slightly underwhelming for me. It's def. not a 5 star dish on its on in my book... I tried both the octopus and shrimp. I think it needed some type of sauce and the texture of the seafood was not my favorite. The chips and salsa were just okay, nothing special... I've had better chips and salsa elsewhere. My friend ordered something similar. It wasn't enough food, I could have eaten more but decided not to that night. Had a great night with plenty of good post dinner conversation, and its definitely a popular spot with the outdoor seating if the weather permits. No problems with the service, but I believe it wasn't amazing. I really think I'll have to come back and try something more amazing to update my review beyond 4 stars. I'll look into the seafood burritos or fried halibut possibly next time...?

I love you Maverick's! I love your cute little restaurant with the beautiful murals, the really nice workers, the cleanliness, and most of all your AMAZING food. Came for a weekday dinner so it wasnt too crazy. Lots of people getting takeout. I love coming to new places but its so hard to decide what to eat! I had my heart set on the oysters but alas they were sold out :( I went ahead and got a grilled halibut taco and mixed seafood tostada. Oh my the seafood was so fresh. The grilled halibut taco was so flavorful and each bite was savored. The tostada was loaded with fresh shrimp and octopus. It had the perfect amount of citrus. It really hit the spot on this hot summer evening. The mini me got the crab and shrimp taquitos plate and it was another winner. She finished half and I ate the rest. Yes i was full but it was that good. Gotta make room :) I even enjoyed the refried beans which is saying alot because I usually dont eat this at all. The only thing I didnt try was my husband carne asada burrito which he devoured. It always a risk when you order away from the house specials but he said it was really good. I will take his word for it. Overall the only thing missing from Mavericks is ice cold beers to enjoy with your meal. Takes credit cards and the guys at the counters are great! 5 Stars PS please have more oysters for me next time. Thank you!

I am surprised so little ratings for this place but then they newly opened. Quite a nice place to hang out outdoors or indoors. The inside is not big but quite nice and casual feel. Very nicely decorated mural walls and the place was clean. The food is very good. Nothing was dry and was very flavorful. I had their oysters on a half shell which was fresh so bonus points for that. The halibut breaded fish taco was very filling as it was filled with small pieces of breaded fish and veggies. The two sauces it came with was surprising good but was not spicy. They did have other sauces to add. They had the habanero extra hot sauces but I am not that brave! Whew! The steak quesadilla and chili verde pork was very good, too. Meat was moist and tender. We went there wanting to try as much as we could and bring the rest home. That didn't happen!!! Haha... My only issue here is everything would have been better if they served beer but their alcohol license was not ready according to the owner. I'll be back when they serve alcohol. :-) The owner served us the most and so easy to talk to. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. Great service here. Hope it stays this way! One of the better Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area ...thanks John for the recommendation! ;-)

This is a great place if you love seafood and fresh Mexican food. We got the scallop chimichanga, tilapia tostada which tasted very fresh- almost like ceviche on a tortilla round, and also go the breaded halibut taco and the snapper taco. Everything was just amazingly fresh and they have good service. They got us chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. I will say the guy who cleans up afterwards is a little "too" eager to clean up as a few times he almost threw away my plate before I was done eating but overall this place is pretty good!

Super delicious, wonderful atmosphere, great location with plenty of parking and the food is a big solid YUMMMMY !!!!! I went on Father's day with my husband, baby and mother and we loved ALL our food. The seafood tasted fresh and flavorful and had all those great latin flavors. I love that this place is in our neighborhood!! We sat outside and our food came pretty quick. Service was great, considering you pay at the counter (great for groups or when you want to go someplace to pay separately), with big smiles we got our food, which was really nice sized portions. My mom is such a finicky lady when it comes to her latin food, she is particular about her rice, her beans, the sauce on the enchiladas, the way the cheese melts, the way the tortilla tastes, how and where they put the salsa on the plate. SHE IS NOT JOKING AROUND. Its annoying but in this instance, a wonderful testimony to how good the food is at Mavericks. She was enamored with their cheese enchilada sauce, and got excited because its the flavors of a sauce she has been trying to craft on her own for awhile. She was really trying to get the recipe from them to my great embarrassment. Instead, I will just need to drag her there often so she can really enjoy the culinary delights at this place. The owner is committed to good food and great quality and its reflected on the plate. If you are in Willow Glen and want to avoid crowded crazy times for a great meal, head on over here and you will NOT be disappointed. SO DELICIOUS. Can't wait to go back !!!!

Leaning more toward 3.5 stars. I suppose this was as good as you can expect out of Mexican food in Willow Glen. There is a great variety of seafood options, which made it difficult to choose - but anytime I get a chance to have scallops, I'm going for it. I had the scallop tacos and my sister had a quesadilla. We shared a half dozen oysters to start. Unfortunately, they didn't taste very fresh, and the rest of our dishes definitely needed more flavor. You don't get salsa verde or picante on the side like you do at most Mexican restaurants. I also missed a chips and salsa bar. The price was okay, considering it's seafood, but the portions are not really big enough to share.

First you think, move over Dia de Pesca, there's a new fish taco player in town. But I don't think it's as great. There are better aspects, such as they provide you free chips + salsa AND they take card, but overall, it was just ok. The fish tacos are alright, I think you get more fish here, but it wasn't as tasty for some reason. Plus the order of guacamole you get is a total RIP OFF, you nearly pay $4 for a tiny 1 oz cup of guac. No thanks. It's a convenient place for me because it's closer to my work than Dia de Pesca + it's air conditioned on the inside, but I still think Dia de Pesca is better! Try for yourself, maybe you'll like Mavericks more!

Soooo glad we stopped in to this new place, yesterday was their first day in business. Check out the cool " Mavericks " mural on the wall! The place is very nice, open, spacious and the staff is very friendly. There's outdoor seating as well. We both had a fish taco, I had the Red Snapper taco and my wife had the Salmon taco. They were delicious, I Ordered two but changed my mind after they told me how much food that was. One was plenty for me and it was very good. I loved the sauces in the Taco. Chips and salsa came with it and we decided to get some guacamole as well. They have a very large menu and we are looking forward to trying some of the other items on our future visits. They also have a kids menu that's not on the main board yet but it sounded pretty good.

I can see now why this place has so many stars. I didn't believe it at first because it still shows up as "hot and new" under Yelp, but 73 (at the time I went) reviews and a solid 5 stars? that's unheard of. Frankly, I'm not a huge fan of fish tacos. For the most part because they're battered and deep fried. I much prefer grilled fish tacos, and many of you know I'm on a tacos binge so I freaking LOVE tacos ... But I was expecting much the same from this place in terms of their seafood that I had been expecting from my earlier excursion this week. Boy, was I wrong. They do have fried fish tacos, their breaded halibut was the recommendation, but IMO it was just ok. Not even because fried, but because it was more flavorless than the grilled tilapia taco I had. That was BOMB.DOT.COM. We also tried their Siete Mares, which is something you don't often find on menus of Mexican restaurants entirely, and rarely at these seafood spots. This translated as "Seven Seafood" soup was way better than I expected. The broth was delicious and flavorful, the seafood was aplenty, and there are lots of tortillas to satisfy your DIY seafood tortilla.

So happy that a new seafood-mexican place opened near my house! I tried the breaded halibut, the crab, and the scallops. 5 stars for these tacos and the seafood freshness. I definitely want to come back to try the other tacos and seafood items. AND love the fact that the restaurant is very clean. My ONE gripe about this place is that the breading used on the halibut is not the typical beer-batter type of breading, it's more like the breading on the outside of chicken tenders. It was still hot and crispy which was great, but I think that should be the one thing they focus on improving upon :)

It's rare to see Ensenada style seafood taquerias. Maverick's is a welcome entry i to the vast array of Mexican joints in the area. Got the tostada mixta, fried halibut taco and cup of clam chowder. The taco was spot on but the others were slightly under seasoned. Chowder needed some more salt and the tostada needed more acid from the marinade. I think they tweak these things and it'd be awesome. Prices are higher as seafood costs arent low in the bay area but worth paying for.

Maverick's is an amazing mexican seafood sit down!! The portions are huge, the food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the prices are amazing. The owner is personable and accomodating. The outdoor seating is awesome! My fiance have enjoyed the following dishes here this week: 1. Shrimp Super Wet Burrito 2. Shrimp Chimichanga 3. Fried Halibut Tostada 4. Shrimp & Crab Flautas I'm so glad my internship is close by because I could eat here everyday. If you haven't been here before, try the fried halibut - the breading is perfectly seasoned and fried. The fish maintains its moisture. They also fry their tortillas perfecty for the chimichangas and tostadas. I like that I can customize my order, so I can banish beans from my plate because beans are gross and they should never be put in any dish ever. I hate beans. Indiscriminately so. I can't wait to true the agua frescas (only $1.90), the tacos, and the shrimp ceviche. Maverick's! You are an excellent addition to this neighborhood!

100% be prepared for a lunch rush to come in so show up early. The restaurant its self is very nice. With great outdoor seating and pretty wall paintings. The food is fresh piping hot and serve pretty fast. I got the shrimp burrito. And you should too! 100% the best one I've ever had. I didn't get it wet. But I will next time. The shrimp inside allows it to have a nice big bite and it holds up to all the beans and rice. My hubs got a fish burrito too but was a little unhappy with his choose of sea food which was snapper. I come again!!!!

$4 each for a salmon and tuna fish taco and a scallop taco too. Plus chips and salsa. That's a great deal. They didn't skimp on the seafood either. Although this place doesn't seem to be a powerhouse of Mexican seafood excellence, they really rock out the food here. The only thing that may be missing is their liquor license so that I can order myself a beer with my food. Plan on coming back here again later. Unlike Dia De Pesca, they do accept credit cards.

I love Mexican food. My significant other...not so much. But! I got him to go in one day because it's extremely close to home, and let's face it. You can't say no to this face. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. We each ordered two tacos (carne, prawn, scallop, and breaded halibut) , we also ordered nachos. The nachos didn't even get touch , so we brought those home. The staff is very friendly, and knows the menu very well which I thought was awesome. The tacos were also really good. I had the shrimp and halibut and thought they were delicious. Very fresh ingredients. I will be back for my taco fix! My only suggestion would be for the outdoor patio to have some kind of umbrella or shaded area. So us ghostly white folks don't fry if we want to enjoy the nice weather. :)

Like old times!! Everything was delicious!!! We used to be fans of Dia de Pesca and didn't have a good experience there recently. Then we found out the head chef came to Mavericks!!! So glad we found out! First they accept credit cards and they also give you complimentary chips and Salsa. One comment I would have is the menu is quite over whelming, if there can be explanation or details on what the item includes that will be helpful. For example, what does a regular burrito comes with and what does a deluxe burrito comes with? We had Snapper burrito and kids burrito, both were fresh and delicious! My hubby had snapper enchiladas, amazing!

Mavericks will be booming in a month or two once established. We order the chile rellano, halibut and prawn tacos. Food was served hot and yummy. We will be back. My only suggestion is wine/beer on the menu and have the front tv's on. Overall great!

If I could critique Mavericks on any aspect of their food or service, it would be that it may be too much of a good thing. My pants have become a bit tighter since I discovered this place. Fish tacos are a highlight. You get burrito-sized portions of top-notch seafood, slaw and sauce with every taco. The breaded halibut has a notable smoky finish, while the non-breaded halibut and snapper options are grilled to perfection. The octopus is prepared to ideal tenderness, with just the right amount of briny flavor. Mavericks' pièce-de-résistance, however, is the super grande campechana: a seemingly bottomless seafood cocktail of top-notch oysters, crab, prawns and octopus, with just enough zest in the tomato broth to keep the hot sauce on the table. One of the best seafood dishes in the South Bay, period. Neither quality nor quantity are sacrificed at Mavericks. Come very hungry if you dare venture into burrito territory.

Good service. Fish tacos were good, but nothing was so "wow" that would make me go out of my way to come back. I'll probably eat there again if I'm in the area and feel like seafood.

My roomie told me about this place and we love trying to new places especially when it comes to fish tacos ! We ordered a buffett of food for 2 lol: Breaded Halibut , Tilapia and carne asada tacos - 5stars Yummy! Clam Chowder Cup- could be a little more thicker but it was very tasteful Nachos Hector - yum!! Esp the quacamole Oysters- very big! Not a fan Tostada Camerones- amazing! Lost of selection of seafood choices. Friendly staff and the owner Chris was very nice! He chased us outside to make sure we liked the food since we left half of our food uneaten because our eyes were too big for our tummys! Since we live up the street we will definitely be back to try the rest of the items. If they sold alcohol , this would definitely be the next upcoming Tequilas or Dia de Pesca!

Halibut fish tacos are delicious! All the ingredients are fresh. The shrimp ceviche tostada was good as well. Free chips and salsa while you wait for your food is a bonus. But, whats great is the food comes out real quick, even when its busy. The owner is super friendly as well, very sociable guy. I noticed he loves talking to all the customers, this is the reason why it gets such great reviews, not only is the food good but the service is great as well. Only reason why I'm giving it a 4 star is because they need their own salsa/hot sauce bar. Using the generic bottled hot sauces are okay but if you can get some awesome hot sauce recipes, BAM this place is easily a 5 star.

One word: Spectacular! Awesome food! Really nice staff! Great place to sit and eat (I could stare at the wall & ceiling murals for hours)! Anyway...I used to be a regular at another local joint called Dia De Pesca. The head chef at Mavericks used to be there, but is now at Mavericks. Man does it ever show--the food at Mavericks Mexican Grill kicks serious butt! And it's closer to my house than Dia de Pesca. Win-Win! Everyone working there has been really nice, helpful and punctual! Orders are taken quickly, and served quickly! I have zero complaints! (and if you read more of my reviews, you'll understand why this statement is so important) Please don't tell TOO many of your friends about this place ...I actually want to get a table next time I go!

I'm deducting one star because we must have come on an off day. The food was good, don't get me wrong! But the beans and rice left a lot to be desired. The TACOS though were amazing. We've yet to come back (schedule) but honestly, we do love the tacos! We may have a close 2nd to Adelita's here (and we LOVE our adelita's!).

It really is as good as everyone says. We came a little after 5 on a Friday and had to park on the street since the lot was full. We were tempted to park in the lot next door since it was an office building and it was after 5 and it was nearly empty...but then figured we will just park on the street. The gentleman who took our order was kind and patient and helped us get some yummy choices. Chips & salsa were brought promptly. The water/soda are in two cases behind the cash register, so if you're busy staring at the menu board on the wall, you may miss it. Bathroom was large and clean. One each for men and women. We loved the salsa that came with the chips. It looks like a cooked salsa, but the jalepeno tasted fresh and went well with the chips. They were very fresh and warm, and tasted more like masa than your typical restaurant chips. Food was brought promptly, and there was a good amount of it. Hubby couldn't finish the chimichanga. I had the shrimp & crab flautas. Very lightly handled. They were crisp and not greasy. I appreciated that the food wasn't very spicy and there were four bottles of hot sauce on the table. I know a few people who normally would love Mexican food but can't handle the spice. Also, don't get me wrong...everything was seasoned very well and the flavors were brought out beautifully. They're just not hot spicy. Hubby's chimichanga was very crisp when it came out. The carne asada was good. He didn't think it was marinated before it was cooked, and we usually like that. Daughter got chicken fajitas. They were well marinated before being cooked perfectly....nice and juicy. The fajita seasoning was delicious and the peppers and onions were very good. She had a salad with hers that I ate, and she ate my beans and rice. The beans were lovely. I hate to keep using the word "light" but they were....not heavy on the lard...they were just these wonderfully mashed up beans that tasted divine. I wish they'd add in shrimp fajitas as those are her favorite. I can't wait to go back and try the salads and tacos next. The chef really knows how to season well.

The word is getting out fast! Everything you loved about Dia De Pesca (which has sadly become a shell of its former glory) is now here at Mavericks, thanks to DDP's former head chef making the leap over to this inconspicuous location near Frank Bramhall park and Blackford Elementary. If you were a DDP faithful, literally everything that you loved (minus the cerveza) is here. The salsa is so good, you can practically drink it (confession: I do). The fish is fresh, delicious, and colorful. Service is fast and friendly (unlike DDP), which is hugely important to me. Mexican food aficionados and seafood lovers alike will find it difficult to settle on what to order, as the menu is full of delicious, tempting fare. Chimichangas (golden fried to perfection), chili rellenos (stuffed with cheese and meat/fish), burritos, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and nachos all begging to be devoured! Needless to say, we've found a favorite new neighborhood restaurant (I'd drive from far away if I had to).

Mavericks rules. Mavericks rules your face. We had chimichangas, flautas, and nachos. All of them were delicious. The beans that we had were not those remade, sitting on the stove all day dried out stuff that other places serve. These were made fresh, possibly made to order. Another great thing I can say about this place is that they know how to use cilantro which is so important at a Mexican place. The complimentary chips and salsa they gave us had a salsa where the cilantro complemented the flavor but did not have that overpowering, dish soap cilantro that so many other places get. The chips and salsa were free but I would have gladly paid for them. The seafood was so fresh and grilled perfectly. The produce we had (especially the peppers) were so fresh that they put up a little fight when you tried to chew on them, which is how peppers should be! This place does everything well and I seriously considered ordering a second entree after we were done. This place does everything well. Above all, they are nice folks when you walk in. One of the employees smiled at me randomly which is just good old-fashioned customer service. I cannot say anything negative about them. I wish I could go in here one day and eat until I passed out. I will try everything on the menu.

I came here for the first time on Saturday with my boyfriend and brother. It was pretty busy but the line didn't take long. I ordered two ceviche tostadas. One mixed and one with just prawns. They were both amazing. My boyfriend ordered the camarones a la diabla and enjoyed that and my brother ordered a ceviche tostada and a scallop taco which he also really enjoyed. I've been pretty biased towards Dia de Pesca (which is amazing as well) but I would put this place right up there with Dia. There's indoor and outdoor seating and they take cash and credit. I will definitely be back again! The owner is super nice too.

I love Mexican food but my husband doesn't prefer it as much. So, when he suggested that we try Mavericks for a weekend lunch, I jumped at the chance. It's pretty standard fare, but I did find their tacos a tad expensive. My favorite place for tacos will always be Mariscos La Costa, and these definitely did not stand up against La Costa. I did enjoy their agua frescas. On the plus side, they serve complimentary chips and salsa.

Their specialty is seafood... But they also make regular mexican food (carne asada, chicken)... I didn't see carnitas on their menu which is a 'must' on mexican cuisine! I had fish (snapper) tacos... The fish was pretty tasty! Lots of flavors on the tacos! Their guacamole and salsa chipotle is outstanding! Their maverick grande chicken burrito is huge and over the top! I will give 5 star to the food! One of the best mexican food I had in this area... Highly recommended if you are on mexican food mode! Btw the food came in to our table super fast! The restaurant it-self is pretty descent and clean! Servers and employees are very friendly. The indoor dinning area is kind of small but they have an outdoor dinning deck which I liked a lot. The only think I will recommend the owner is to get some umbrellas or a canopy for the outdoor dinning area... We were eating outdoor and it was very sunny, the sun was killing us! But overall? 5 STAR FOR SURE!

We just went to mavericks for the first time and it was great! Great quality seafood, nice people working and a clean restaurant. It was so nice to see a new independent restaurant off to a good start! I highly recommend you give them a try for a casual Mexican meal! The prawn taco was excellent, not over or under dressed with cabbage and 2 kinds of sauce. We'll be back! Soon!

I was very excited to try this place, but I didn't think the food was as delicious as it looked. I ordered a Mixta Tostada and a Breaded Halibut Taco. The Mixta Tostada was absolutely gorgeous. The octopus, crab and shrimp, along with the avocado, gave so much color to the tostada. It was a ceviche, and really cold, but the flavors weren't quite there. The lime flavor was overpowering and I couldn't taste much of the seafood flavors. This cost $5.19, which I thought was pretty pricey. The breaded halibut tasted better but it cost $4.09, which I thought was also pricey. I've had better halibut tacos for less than $3.00 each. The free chips and salsa were a plus! The bottled chile verde they had on thr table was an odd pastel green color and tasted pretty weird. Service was good and our orders came out very fast. I probably wouldn't return unless I was in the area.

New seafood Mexican lunch spot with plenty of outdoor seating! Prices are fair & the menu offers a lot of options. I tried the sea scallop taco & the breaded halibut taco. The tacos come with a side of tortilla chips & salsa. The salsa wasn't as spicy as I would have liked but it tasted fresh. Agua frescas are $1.95. They had horchata or a mango berry juice. I tried the horchata & thought it was great. The tacos are larger than street tacos so 2 were definitely filling for me. They're also made with two corn tortillas so that makes them extra filling but sturdy. This place is an order-at-the-counter joint but they bring your food to your table when it's ready. They offer other options like burritos & chimichangas. I heard the burritos aren't as good as the tacos because you get less seafood in it but I have yet to try them. I will most likely try the chimichanga the next time I come. Prices are fair. For two tacos, a drink & a side of chips my total was under $11.

I went this afternoon to Mavericks restaurant to have a Chile relleno. When I walked in they were really welcomed, I ordered and less than 10 minutes I got my food, it was a huge plate, plus chips and salsa. It is very hard to find a place where serve chiles relleno with no seed , and they do, also the menu seems to be really good and they have many options for vegetarians. I liked it and I 'll be back for sure. It's a nice place for lunch with excellent service.

The food is delicious...red snapper and scallop tacos are my favorite, and the fact that they even have a scallop taco is pretty awesome. Also comes in a burrito! Restaurant is very no-frills, but offers a great, casual atmosphere with nice outdoor seating area. The secret is getting out though, and it can be pretty busy on weekends, but it is worth the wait!

After hearing about Mavericks and reading reviews we finally tried it tonight and we're very happy to have found a new place! We had the halibut fish taco's which reminded us of Cabo! Delicious and fresh. The guacamole was awesome too, and I'm picky with my guacamole. Not a big fan of the heavy chips, prefer lighter variety. I highly recommend Maverick's to anyone that likes fish taco's! Great job and hope you keep up the quality!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
